Diseased Beech Tree Removal

Not all tree work is straightforward, and when fungal pathogens are involved, careful management becomes even more important. Recently, we safely dismantled a large roadside beech that was showing clear signs of Ganoderma and Meripilus giganteus. With significant decay undermining its structure, removal was the only responsible option given its close proximity to a busy highway.

Situations like this highlight the importance of regular tree inspections. Decay can often remain hidden until it poses a serious risk to people, property, or roadsides. This is also the case with ash die back—a destructive disease that continues to impact ash trees across the UK. Once infection has weakened a tree, the safest and most effective solution is often removal.

Wherever possible, we make sure resources don’t go to waste. In this case, all timber was processed on-site and split into logs for the estate, ensuring the tree remains useful even after removal.

Proactive tree care protects not just the landscape but also the safety of the public.
